| About Our Family Research |
|
This is the first generation of the Butler-Caughie family. My wife's (Eileen) maiden name was Butler and my pre-marriage name was Caughie. I legally changed my name from Fredrick John Caughie to Fredrick John Butler-Caughie upon marriage.
Eileen's family are fron Newfoundland, Canada, but originally from Ireland. My family emmigrated from Scotland to Montreal, QC, but was also originally from Ireland.
I am a military chaplain with the Canadian Armed Forces. In 2005 I received a personal Grant of Arms from the Canadian Government. This is hereditary with each descendant making suble changes to the original grant to represent their affiliation in the family record.
We are attempting to trace our roots back to their originating countries and thus fill in the blanks of our Family Tree. Hopefully, we will be able to aquire family stories, history and connections throughout this journey.

- Butler-Caughie Family Tree (51 KB)
The Butler-Caughie Family came into being on 21 June 1986 with the marriage of Eileen Butler to Fredrick Caughie. Just as the "two became one in marriage" the two names were also combined in honour of this new union. Recently, we have begun searching our roots to see where we have come from and and to write the story of the family. We are still in the early stages of our search for our roots and look forward to the journey back through time.

The Grant of Arms is part of the Honours and Awards of Canada. The award is individual but also hereditary. Each descendant of the recipient of the Grant is entitled to personal arms based upon the original. This becomes an ever lasting legacy.

The military has been a large part of Major Butler-Caughie's life. This has oft' times been very demanding on the family. Sons, Jonathan and Aaron joined the Army Cadet program in 2000 and 2001 respectively.
- Remembrance Day Service: 11 Nov 2006 (1251 KB)
We held our annual Regimental Remembrance Day Church Parade at Leaside Presbyterian Church in Toronto. Major Butler-Caughie officiated.
