Tanner Family Association - Tanners of Mississippi

Updated June 25, 2009

About Our Family Research

The Tanner Family Association was created by descendants of George Henry Tanner, Jr. who was born 11/16/1887 in West Station, MS and lived in Carroll and Montgomery Counties. He died 11/2/1979. He married Ethel Lee Smith.

Our family research efforts involve trying to find information about the grand-father of George Henry Tanner, Jr and the parents of Ethel Lee Smith (Fred Smith and Henrietta Cabot or Cabbott). The 1880 census shows George Tanner, Sr. at age 12 living with his Uncle Joseph Singleton at Mitchell Mills, MS. We have been unable to find his father Greener Tanner or his Choctaw Indian mother Molly.

The purpose of the association is to coordinated family research, family reunions, communications and fund raisers. Current fund raisers relate to scholarship and bereavement funds.
