Researching both ancestors and descendants of the John Wesley MANES family of both Taney Co, MO as well as Boone Co, AR. I ave discovered a great many lovely, wonderful and helpful MANES Cousins.I enjoy seeking more everyday! I did, at long last, concede the fact that my John Wesley MANES is the son of Pleasant R MANES & his first wife Mary Lucinda "Polly" GIBBS; and that Wesley is not the son of George & Malinda as I had so erroneously believed.
My great grandpa, John Wesley MANES was married to Harriet Almeda McNAIR. Their last child Harry Romeliss MANES was born in Lead Hill, Boone Co, AR. His mother,Harriet, died shortly after his birth & was buried in the old Lead Hill Cemetery, which was later relocated to the New Milam Cemetery in Boone Co, AR.John Wesley, however was buried in the McCarty Cemetery in Taney Co, MO. At the time of his death the weather prohibited him being transported to AR to be buried with his wife.
My grandpa Harry R MANES married Alice Jane BROWN, the dau of James Austin "Blind preacher Jim" BROWN and Amanda "Mandy" Jane (THURMAN)MANORD. NOTE: ANY info on the MANORD family would be most appreciated.
Harry and Alice Manes later moved to OK. They had 12 children. My mother, Fleeta B Manes, married Benjamin Franklin BUTLER. They had me!
Allied Surnames include: FREEMAN, NIX, HOWELL, TINSMAN, TOBIN, SHERERTZ, WILLIAMS, POLKE,HILL. STOUT, CARR, DICKERSON.
One family mystery I am working on is that of Laura T MANES, dau of John Wesley & Harriet Almeda MANES. Laura married a fellow by the name of RICE. They had a son named Isaac Rice. I would like to learn who RICE was and his family and what became of Isaac! What became of his father? Where is his mother, Laura buried?
Another mystery is Laura's brother, John W. MANES who, according to family stories, was shot and killed near Taneyville, MO by "a thief" named BROWN. Where is John W buried? What family of Browns was he from?
My biggest BRICK WALL to date is finding out who the parents of Ephraim Niles BUTLER were? He married Catherine TOBIN. They lived and died in Robinson, Crawford Co,IL. They are my ggrandparents.I have info on the TOBIN line but can't get the Butler line to connect. E. N. BUTLER per census was born in OH, he had ties to IL, IN, KY. He may have had a brother or two. His parents were possibly a William and Hannah (unknown) BUTLER both being b. in NH.ANY connections or info regarding this branch of the family would be greatly appreciated.
Please contact me. As my Grandma Manes always told me, we were English, Irish & Dutch & a "little bit of Devil, but not very much!"
