I have very little information, and I am not exactly sure what is correct and what isn't. I am just starting. I am interested in researching, and do not know how exactly to begin.
I have been told that my family was from an Indian tribe in Ireland and the original name was Butt - coming from the fact that they lived at the "butt" of the mountain. The name was changed to Butts as one relative was angry at the Irish and decided Butts sounded more German. I am also supposed to be related to Major Archibald Butt on the Titanic, but again, I have only this information from an aunt. ANY help would be appreciated. Thank you.
