My sister and I are just beginning to research our family history. Everyone from my father's side of the family is in the northeast. My father was in the army during WWII and Korea. He retired from the army and went to work for a defense contractor in Amarillo, Texas, far from his home and family in Boston, Massachusetts.
My mother, originally from Oklahoma, went to Germany after WWII to work for the government. She met my father while there and they were married in Germany in 1948. My mother's sisters (maiden name: Sheridan)and most of their children are in Florida and Missouri.
Unfortunately, we have never kept in close touch with our out-of-state relatives, getting most of our news through the grapevine. Consequently, we started with next to nothing, but the things we have managed to find have been encouraging. Probably the most exciting thing we have found so far is the name of our grandfather's hometown in Ireland: Kilmacthomas, located in County Waterford.
