My Great Great Grandfather was John Davis Cadden(Seaman)dob abt 1840 and place unknown.My Great Grandfather was Francis Davis Cadden dob 8,April,1866 in Belfast(Seaman/River Foyle Pilot/deputy Harbour Master).At 13 he was an Apprentice to Messers W.McCorkell &Co Londonderry,and sailed on the Minniehaha,Harvester and Oweenee.Mate’s Certificate of Competency record in BT122/88.He was certified as a 2nd Mate on 20/9/1889 at Belfast. The certificate number is 021603.
In 1905 he passed Pilots exam and became a River Foyle Pilot.He was married to Matilda Jane McGonigle (Daughter of James McGonigle dob 1836 Cumber Claudy Ireland a Civil Bill Officer)in St Columbs Cathedral (COI) 14 March 1889.I require information on another Cadden connection starting with James Cadden of Belfast (shoemaker)dob bef 1824 married to Ellen (Daughter of Anthony and Mary Dugan) dob abt 1823/4-in Armagh,d 1866 in Londonderry.James & Ellens son John Cadden (bootmaker)dob abt 1844-? emigrated to Canada birthplace unknown.John married 3 times in St Columbs Cathedral Londonderry parish of Templemore.1/Margaret Jones (nee Barnes)dob 1833 Preston England d-1886 married 10 Aug 1872.2/ Sarah McCutcheson dob 1862 Castlederg Co Tyrone - d 1887 married 8 March 1887.3/Minnie Emma Cooper dob 1846,Irvinestown,Co Fermanagh d-? married 31 Jan 1888 (Francis Cadden a witness,my great grandfather).John had two children a son Francis abt 1887 to Sarah McCutcheson who died 9th September 1887 in the house of Mr Balck Fahan and a daughter Mary Ellen dob 2nd December 1888 to Minnie Emma Cooper(daughter of Charles Cooper and sister of Anne Jane Cooper of Irvinestown dob 1846-1927.They emigrated to Canada onboard the SS PARISIAN 27th March 1891 ,landed in Halifax.The Caddens then lived in Saltcoats Sask Canada.Frank D Cadden b 1887 Londonderry moved to California,and we would love to hear from his decendants.Now a James Cadden (shoemaker)dob abt 1850 d 14 November 1941 of Omagh married in St Stephens Dublin 13 Oct 1874 to Anne Jane Cooper dob abt 5th April 1846 d 4th July 1927(father Charles Cooper (Carpenter) and sister of Minnie Emma Cooper).As you can see John of Belfast and James of Omagh married 2 sisters and at the wedding of John in Londonderry my great Grandfather Francis Davis Cadden was there (1888)?Anyone can help drop me a line.
