My research is focused on the name Goerke or Gehrke, starting about 1810 in Danzig, West Prussia, but probably beginning much earlier in that area. I'm also looking for information about the Schumann name in Danzig. Johann Gottlieb Goerke (b.1810-11) married Johanna Florentine Schumann, daughter of Johann Jacob Schumann and Anna Maria Lierks(?) in Danzig in 1837, and together they had 10 children. Six of the children about whom I am seeking further information: Carl Johann Heinrich Goerke (b. 1841); Mathilde Emilie Goerke (b. 1844); Carl Heinrich Goerke (b. 1848); Bertha Therese Goerke (b. 1853); and Johanna Susanna Goerke (b. 1856). And one son who left Danzig and moved to Berlin: August Ludwig Goerke (b. 1842, moved to Berlin/Charlottenburg in May 1877). The family was Protestant.
