I have been interested in finding out more about my family history since 1996. My father, Dennis Hershel McNew, had not been in touch with his father for over thirty years. Sadly, my father died on 2-9-95, without telling me much about his past. My initial investigation brought me quickly to a man who published a book on McNew memorabilia. His name is Joe Carroll. We were able to ascertain that I was descended from Shadrack McNew in the 1760's. From this information I was able to find my grandfather who is still living in Missouri with his second wife. I was excited to find him and talk to him. I talk to him often. Now, piecing together my family history has become somewhat of a hobby for me. New details are like puzzle pieces that help me to understand more about myself.
