My name is james caknipe jr. from Mecklenburg Co. Va. My father was James L. Caknipe, Born June 3, 1924, Died Jan. 26, 01 His father was John Wesley Ca(k)nipe he put the k in our name when he came up here from somewhere around Casar, NC. around 1920 he left a wife and 11 kids came up here and married my grandmother, John was married to Nancy Alice Hoyle born July 10, 1875, Their children were Pete Archie, b.5-28,1891, Mary Jane, b. 5-`18-1893, Joe, b. 8-3-1894, Ambrose, b. 4-28-1897, Michael, b.4-4-1901, Essie Rebecca, b.7-18-1902, Hettie, b. 3-27-1904, Thomas, b.3-11-1907, Versie Elizabeth, b.5-10-1909, Ella May, b. 5-2-1911, and Johnny Patterson, b. 1-3-1913 John W. Canipe,s father was Michael (miles) Canipe. Michael was married to Elizabeth Smith Canipe on may 15, 1867 and they had 9 children. Michaels father was David Canipe and his mother was named Frances Micheal Canipe is buried at Mt.Gilead Baptist Church, Burke Co. NC. I am pretty sure these Canipe's are decendents of Christain Knipe who came from Germany in Sept.26, 1749. I was told that a Christain Kanipe served in the revolution in Pennsylvania. Also there was a Christain Knipe Listed in the 1790 cencus of North Carolina, living in the Salisbury District of Rowan County.
