Tunis Caldwell left Aylet's Corner, VA at the beginning of the Civil War. His brother, Henry Clay Caldwell, learned to make and play the banjo (band jar). The family owned and operated the Perfect Heat Stove Company, at Buffalo, NY, and they cast the first aluminum block for the Pierce-Arrow automobile.
