The Campbells and Pates from NC to TN 1830

Updated December 18, 2000

About Our Family Research

Stephen and Honor Sweeney Pate came from Richmond County, NC to Carroll / Weakley County,TN around 1828/29. They brought their children, Stephen Sweeney Pate, Richmond Love Pate, and Sally Pate (b. 1790 - 1800), among others. Sally was married to Alex Campbell (b. 1790 - 1800)and Alex came with them, too. Alexander and Sally Campbell had four children - Philip (b. 1822 in NC), Alexander (born 1827 in NC), Daniel, and Margaret Ann. The Campbells, Pates, Coles, and McKenzies all came from Richmond County, NC and were early settlers of this part of West TN. Sally Pate Campbell had died by 1839. The four children of Alex and Sally Campbell were placed in the guardianship of Richmond Love Pate in 1840, so I assume Alexander had also died by this time. I am trying to connect Alexander Campbell to his parents in NC. I assume they were among the Highland Scots who came up the Cape Fear River to settle in Anson County in the mid-1700's.
