"The Cantu's of South Tx "

Updated July 23, 2001

About Our Family Research

My name is Adela Cantu and this is my family's history. My family has lived in South Texas since before 1767 as far as we know. I know from my father that my g-g-g-grandfather was one the original owners of the Rio Grande Valley. Porcion 39 is located in Starr and Hidalgo County this is the land given to my g-g-g-grandfather. His name was Antonio J. Villareal. Antonio Villareal passed on his land over to his son Albino Villareal. He in turn gave the land to his duagther Nicolasa Villareal who passed it on to her husban Crisantos Cantu my g-g-grandfather. Before his death Crisantos Cantu passed the land over to his uncle. It was for safe keeping until my g-grandfather and his siblings were old enough. Insted there uncle divided the land among his chidern. When my g-grandfather was older he told my father'Abram Cantu' the story of what happened to there land years agos. When my father was a young man he and my grandfather travelled to Austin for a copy of the deed. Thats how my father ended up with the documents of a survey stating the amount of acres the Crown of Spain awarded my g-g-g-grandfather Antonio Villareal in the year 1767. My father passed away on Sept. 4,1992 The documents now belong to my brother Reynaldo Cantu and my mather Santiaga Cantu{born May 23,1920 in Durango Mexico}. There is much more to this story. This are a few names of my ancesters. Crisanto Cantu might have died in 1895,Juan Jose Cantu might have died 1872 Ygnacia Cantu died 1917, Victor Cantu Born 1862 died 1947,Jesus Cantu migth have died 1907, Elicello Cantu might have died May,1901 my grandmother Alcaria Cantu born 1887 died June,1971. If any one out there thinks they migth have some information please contact me and thank you in advance.
