Updated April 1, 2005

About Our Family Research

My name is Carolyn, I live in OKlahoma City, I am a Registered Nurse and work in the Home Health Field and am active in the Baptist Church. I am the only child of a second marriage of Thomas Jefferson Cantrell (1885 - 1956) and Mrs. Ethel E. (Pool) Driver (1899-1987). My father and his first wife Miss Lula Oxford(1887-1931)had five children,Bertha Cantrell Thomas, Carl Cantrell,Pearl Cantrell Aubrey, Lois J. Cantrell, and Alline Cantrell Thompson. My mother was married first to Albert Driver; he died in 1920, and they had one daughter Edna E. Driver (Glass). My research into Genealogy was motivated by the untimely deaths of my father's children, my half brothers and sisters (although the disease did not affect Bertha and Carl, the two oldest children). I wanted to know more about Genetics and the etiolgy of inherited diseases. As it turned out, Genealogy became a wonderful hobby and I have spent hours at the Oklahoma Historical Library reading hundreds of rolls of microfilm. My father Tom was the son of William C. "Whit" Cantrell (1858-1937) and Miss Josephine Oxford Cantrell (1862-1951). Whit was the son Benjamin F. Cantrell (1826-1905) and Whit was born in Carroll County Georgia. Benjamin was the son of Jesse J. Cantrell and Mary Jane unknown.
My father Tom was born in Van Zandt County Texas.
My mother Ethel Elizabeth Pool was born in Llano County Texas the first child of Leonard Dalco Pool (1865-1929) and Miss Alice Bertie Ledbetter (1881-1962) Leonard was the son of Nathan Lafayette Pool and Samantha Elizabeth Parker. He was born in Catahoula Parish Louisiana. Nathan L Pool (1835-?) was the son of Spencer P'Pool (1812-1865?) and Miss Nancy (Humble)Pool Bohannon. Spencer Pool was born East Feliciana Parish and the son of David PettyPool of Sumter, S.C., Spencer 's mother is unknown.
My mother Ethel Elizabeth Pool, born 1899 had 4 siblings; Ethel was the oldest, Elsie May Pool Jones was next, then a sister Bessie Alma Pool Grace, and two brothers Royal Dalco Pool, and Joe Roger Pool. Uncle Roger has a son Phillip Pool in Kentucky. I r recently learned that Bertha Faye Cantrell Harbolt THomas passed awat in HOuston in 1988, and also a cousin on the Pool side. ROgert Phillip Pool son of ROger Pool passed away in Louisiville in 2004.
