Richard Prater (son of George Prater and Jane Plott) was born 1540 in Latton Manor, Wiltshire Co, England, and died May 18, 1580 in Nunny, Somerset, England.

He was a Lord of Nunney Castle and other Manors. He came into possession of Nunney Castle, the Manors of Nunney,Glaston, Lighe, Trotoxhill, Sharpshawe, all in Somerset and lands from his father in Cryklade, Chelworth, Calcote, also included in these holdings were 40 farms with dwellings and Surfs, 30 farms with no buildings, and about 4000 acres of meadow and timer lands. A tenament in Oxford, and numerious businesses which included Mills/Wool Processing Centers/ Dovecotts.
Richard was the major heir of his father, George Prater of latton, Wiltshire, England. He held the title of "Esquire and Lord of Nunney."
