Hi Jack!
I have been meaning to get back with you! Please find in this e-mail info from the St. Albans (where I live) History book...honestly, I think this info is not quite correct and that the family notebook (wish I could find that thing! I have no idea who has it) is where the info came from. It is the same family with the same immigrant ancestor - however, I believe your info on your site is the most accurate :)

Capehart - Kephart
The immigrant ancestor was John Gebhart (Kephart) or Capehart born in 1738 who apparently came over with his brother or uncle Gotfried on the ship "Neptune" on Sept. 30, 1754 and took the oath of allegiance at Philadelphia on the same day. Gotfried settled in Frederick (later part of Carroll) County, MD. John was in the same neighborhood. John married about 1761 - Susanna - born 1742 and they are shown in census report as Kephart and living in the Georgetown Hundred somewhere between Washington and Frederick, MD. Their children were: Elizabeth born 1762; John Jr. 1764; Jacob 1766; Katherine 1768; George 1770; Phillip 1772; and Leornard 1774.

John Sr. settled in Cumberland, MD under the name of Gebhart where they were a prominent family.

Phillip took the name of Capehart and moved into Virginia [my note: now West Virginia]. he married Jane Windon, daughter of Francis Windon, who was a soldier in the Revolution and took part in the battle of Point Pleasant under General Lewis as well as other engagements and helped drive the Indians westward. They settled in Mason County and he died in 1832. Their children were: James, born about 1797; John 1799; Sarah 1802; Rose Ann 1804; Henry 1806; George 1808; Phillip 1811; Joseph, April 30, 1813. This was copied from Cousin Steve Capehart's journal, owned by his granddaughter Maude Capehart Frasher [my note: she was a first cousin to my grandmother], and shows Jane as "Rose" Windon and Phillip's death about 1802. They settled on Crooked Creek 4 miles back of Point Pleasant and he is buried there. He was one of four brother, German immigrants, who settled in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia and the fourth was in the Navy [my note: this is quite confusing!]. Rose Windon was a sister of Harry Sr. who came west in 1770 to fight Indians and married Phillip Capehart's sister whose descendants are in Mason County. John Capehart, sone of Phillip, was born June 27, 1799 at Point Pleasant. He was a Methodist, a merchant and a farmer.
