William Galloway "Indian Billy" Ice was born April 01, 1730 in South Branch Of Potomac River, Hampshire Co, VA, and died February 1826 in e Cemetery,Barrackville,Marion County,Wv. He married Margaret Higginbotham on Abt. 1764, daughter of Ralph Higginbotham.

Born William Galloway Ice, April 1, 1730.

William lived with his family at Patterson Creek, (W)Va. When he was a boy, he and his two sisters were taken captive by Indians. A few years later, he was old and strong enough to escape and returned home to his Father. He was given the nickname "Indian Billy".

He became an expert woodsman, tracker, and Indian fighter. He "served as a volunteer in every American war occurring in his lifetime; the French and Indian War, the following Indian troubles, the Revolutionary War, and the Indian Wars, until 1796. As a ranger he fought Indians in present day Green Co., Pa. He also served in the Militia, recieving pay at Pittsburgh in 1775." A Deposition also revealed that "William Ice was at Braddocks defeat".

As historian Hu Maxwell stated,"Indian Billy", was "A hero equal to or greater than any, a great and grand American pioneer and patriot, a living legend of greatness in his own time
