Carter: Archdeacon John Wilfrid was born in the English Midlands in 1901 and emigrated to Canada in 1926 to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He trained for the ministry of the Anglican Church and served parishes in south western Saskatchewan including Lucky Lake,Rockglen, Shaunavon, Gull Lake and Regina. In 1949 he and his family moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta. He and his wife Mabel (Sheward) moved to Calgary in 1972. John Wilfred died in January 1990 and is buried at St. Margaret's church/cemetery, Eagle Butte, Alberta. Carter-Sheward: Mabel Louise was born in the English Midlands in 1912 and came as a babe in arms with her family to a homestead south east of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan in 1913. The family moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and it was there Mabel met and married the Rev'd John Wilfred Carter in 1932. John and Mabel had three children - David John April 6, 1934 (Moose Jaw, Sask), Elizabeth Anne (Far Forest, Worcestershire, July 25, 1937),Patricia Mary-March 21, 1942, Regina, Saskatchewan. Carter:David John studied at St. John's College, Winnipeg, Manitoba and later at Anglican Theological College, Vancouver. After ordination as an Anglican clergyman he served parishes in Winnipeg and Bird's Hill, Manitoba then as University Chaplain at the U. of Calgary plus Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and Mount Royal Jr. College -Calgary, Alberta. In 1969 he became Dean of the Anglican Cathedral in Calgary. In 1979 he entered provincial politics and served in the Alberta Legislature from 1979-1993. He was Speaker of the Legislature from 1986-1993. He writes western Canadian history and restores/maintains 20 abandoned rural settler cemeteries.
