John Carder (died 1809)
John Carder first appears in the Tennessee records in 1787, when he received a land grant for 100 acres on Lick Creek in Greene County. He received another 100 acre grant, which was later recorded in 1811 under John Carder's heirs. He wrote his will on 4 May 1809 and it was proved on 24 July 1809.

On 26 October 1812 Amasa Harrold, "surviving executor" of the Last Will and Testament of John Carder, deceased, exhibited in court an inventory of the goods and chattles of the testator. On 13-14 November 1812 all the property except the land of John Carder was sold to relatives and neighbors. Among the items sold were one gray mare, the corn standing in the field, three books, a Bible, a Testament, and hymn book. On 25 January 1813, Amasa Harrold exhibited an account of the sales of his testator's estate and it was ordered to be recorded.
It appears that Dorcas Carder died prior to October 1812. She last appeared on the tax list in 1812, being taxed on 200 acres on Lick Creek. From 1812 onward, Amasa Harrold is taxed on 200 acres on Lick Creek for John Carder's heirs.
On 25 January 1813 an order of the Greene County Court states that "Jonathan Carder an orphan boy aged fifteen years on the 3rd day of June next be bound unto Thomas Collier until 21 years of age, to receive one year of schooling, to be taught the business of Husbandry". Thomas Collier bought the Bible in John Carder's estate sale. Amasa Harrold bought the Testament.
On 27 January 1813 the court ordered that "John Carder an orphan boy aged nine years on January 1 instant be bound apprentice to Simon Pope of this county until he arrives at the age of 21 years to receive eighteen months schooling, and at his freedom, to receive a horse worth 60 dollars, also a saddle, bridle, a pair of geers, one ax and mattock and two good suits of clothes."
In November 1812, it was ordered that Thomas Carder be bound to David White until he arrive at full age.
In August 1813, it was ordered that Samuel Carder, a minor, be bound unto John Grimsley.
On 25 April 1815, George Carder, an orphan boy aged five years on the first of October last was bound unto Henry French of this County to be taught to read, also the art and mistery of coopering.
Later deeds show Samuel (1826), George(1829), and David D. Carder (1828) selling shares of land they inherited from their father John Carder. These shares were 28 1/2 acres each. Somehow, Jonathan Justice had acquired the other four shares out of the total of seven shares of the estate. He sold this 114 1/2 acres in 1825 to Isaac Babb.
