John Carder of Tennessee first appears in the records in 1767, when he received a land grant in Hampshire County, West Virginia, for 361 acres of land on Beaver Run. In 1789, he and his wife Elizabeth sold this land to Henry Lighter of Hampshire County. At this time John and Elizabeth were living in Greene County, Tennessee. John Carder was deeded 150 acres in 1791 in Greene County, Tennessee. John Carder, Sr. died sometime between 1817 and 1825.
