The Libertos of Cefalu

Updated October 17, 2001

About Our Family Research

Rosa Liberto (my great-grandmother) came to Baltimore, MD via New York on October 03, 1900 from Cefalu (pa Palermo), Sicily . She brought her husband Salvatore Brocato and her daughter Maria Liberto (my grandmother) with her.

Rosa was 38, Salvatore was 42 and Maria was 15. Salvatore was a fisherman. None of them had ever been to the US, couldn't read or write. They had their paid tickets (which they paid for themselves) to go to Baltimore. Rosa and Salvatore each had $20. They were going to Rosa's brother, Giovanni Liberto's house, 317 Frain? Street. They're health was good; none were deformed/crippled, nor had been in prison, nor had a contract to labor in the U.S. They were not polygamists.
