At 23 years old, I am just now starting out away from my family, who live in Ohio. My family's roots are in Italy and Germany; my mother's parents, the Pelusos, actually grew up in Calabria, located in the bottom of the boot. My mother, Janet, grew up in West Virginia with her two sisters. My father was raised in Ohio with his brother and sister. My parents met in Ohio, where they lived on and off for several years before heading for Iowa, where I was born Deborah Jo Cassell. My brother, seven years older than I, was born in Ohio.
Our family has come full circle as of late. After 15 years in Iowa, we moved to Illinois. I then went to college in Ohio, where Dad started out, and my parents moved back to that midwestern state two years ago. With my brother now residing with his wife in Missouri and me in Chicago, our family has spread out, but keep in constant touch with one another.
