The Adam-Cloud Roots of Houston, TX

Updated January 14, 2009

About Our Family Research

My sister, Karina Cloud Adams, reads from her Family Heritage research paper that she wrote on the Adams Family on February 16th 1994. She quotes Tucker Hetherly, our cousin, from September 1985 (His paper shows potential, the teacher said. He has a nice voice to his writing) "Adam and John Wurts Cloud. The first two episcopal ministers in Texas - Trinity Episcopal" My first name is Adam, her middle name is Cloud. She continues: A. J. Adams, one of the first settlers in Ft. Bend County, had a plantation - SMADA - which his father James C. Adams bought for him. It was said to have had problems with its crops. Hm? One interesting thing concerning the Adams name is an old whistle stop on Highway 6 near Sugarland, TX. The old site had a sign with the SMADA name. Unfortunately, the sign has been removed in the last few years (as of 1985). SMADA, of course, is Adams spelled backwards." Karina and I visited the Lucy Tucker Adams Park in Missouri City with our father Andrew Jackson Adams IV in 1994. The year before The Adams and Goodrich families had a picnic reunion in San Jacinto State Park where our great-great-great grandfather James C. Adams (d. 1869) and his wife M.C. Adams (d. 1885) were buried. Present: Jane Adams Goodrich, Lucy Tucker Goodrich, Claire Noel Frost, Caroline Adams Frost, Raymond Goodrich, Elouise Adams Jones, Andrew Jackson Adams IV, Adam DeWalt Adams, Karina Cloud Adams Cascadden, Charles Cooper, Grant Roane, and Barbara Roane Bleil. That weekend, we gathered to honor and celebrate our family's history through Jane Goodrich who shared with us her collective memories. Eight years later, Karina and I meet with Elouise Jones, Lucy Cheadle, and Claire Frost at Ouisie's Table to continue where we left off!

I, (Karina), have been in contact with Troy Groves in regards to his website, Terry's Texas Rangers. We have successfully updated biographical info. on James C. Adams and his sons.
