My search is almost like searching two worlds. My paternal side of the family is almost entirely from Massachusetts, and my materal line is mostly Kentucky, with some surrounding areas thrown in. Right now, I am concentrating on my maternal line, because I am desperate to discover what tribe my gggg grandmother belonged to. Her name was Sarah Ann Walton (or Walten) and she married William Smith Broady, who is supposed to be an English squire! Their children are from Kentucky. Then, I recently found out that on my maternal line, but from another branch, I have another relative who has Native American blood. Her name was Sarah Ann Leach, and it was said that her father was a Cherokee. If this rings any bells, please let me know! Some other surnames from my maternal line are: Lee, Brooks, Russell, Coats, Hogan, Reed, Coble, Bunnell, Leach, Ervin, Smith, and Wilhelm. There are some more, but these are the direct ancestors. On my paternal line, I have reached a dead end with my gg grandparents, Thomas F. Cowen and Mary L. Cowen. They died in an accident and left two children orphaned in the early 1900's. They had a Boston address on their daughter Maud's birth certificate, but I have not been able to locate a death certificate. So that is my mystery from that side of the family. Surnames that are related to my paternal line in MA include: Caswell, Cowan, Dunham, Kenrich (Kenwrick, Kenrick), Taylor, Smart, Roscoe, Morse, Fenn, and possibly Francis. If you have any information you think might be related, please email me.
