Chicago Morissette's

Updated March 29, 2001

About Our Family Research

The research is pending upon finding and verifying the parents of Pierre Morissette born 1827 to 1829 in Canada and apparently moved to Chicago in 1869 or 1870. Some of his sons made a stop in New York, before coming to Chicago, in the county of St. Lawrence in and around Ogdensburg. One of his grandsons, Ralph, went back to New York state and eventually became Mayor of Ogdensburg.

Pierre was very short and passed this on to most of his descendants, however, my great grandfather was 6 feet 4 inches. There is a legend of an indian grandmother somewhere back along the line who was a Cree.

The persons listed below helped to build the neighborhood at 38th and California from scratch, i.e., homes, churches, businesses, etc. This was between 1840 to 1950.
