I have started this investigation into my past for several reasons: First, to find the origin of "Castens" (as opposed to "Kastens"). My immediate family's pet theory is that it is French, rather than German, in origin. Second, to discover the Jewish roots of my mother's family, the Abrahams. Finally, because everyone needs a hobby, myself included.
