George Geiger, Sr. immigrated to the United States some time between 1912 and 1914. He met his future wife either on the ship over to America, or once he landed. His wife, Teresa Engi came to America from Hungary with her parents and siblings at that same time.
George came from a town called Tusctereber, Hungary, which is now Turulung in present day Romania. The area was originally settled by Germans in 1743 under Count Franz Karolyi. (There are two Geigers now living in that area that could be related.)
George had four brothers and one sister: Steven, John, Frank, and Rosa. He came over to America on one of his brother's passports, probably Frank. Brother, Joe, came to Canada a few years later; he wasn't able to get into the U.S. The Kaiser had suspended all immigration right after that.
Teresa Engi came to America with her parents, John and Teresa Engi and her brother and sisters: John, Lena, Mary, and Anna. We think they're from the counties of possibly Szegad, Somodgy, and Hevas in Hungary.
George and Teresa Geiger lived for periods of time in Michigan, possibly Ohio, and upstate New York, where they finally settled.
They had 11 children: Mary, Joseph, Tesse, Olga, Helen, Margaret, Ed, George, Hank, Andrew, and Robert. George, Hank, Andrew, and Robert are still living and still live in upstate New York.
The Geigers and Engis were farmers in Hungary and when they came to the U.S.
