The research never ends! I haven't listed all pertinent dates for brevity, so if you have any questions or information, please let me know!!
-->IRISH ROOTS (Maternal): I have researched maternal family dating back to 1882 in Ireland. My Great-Great Grandfather, Thomas Patrick Gordon was born in Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland in 1862 and was a shoemaker by trade. I've been told he was adopted, so I'm not sure if the name Gordon is his natural surname (Scottish origins) or his adopted surname.
He joined the King's Royal Horse Artillery in 1882 and retired in 1902. He then came to America and finally saved enough to send for his wife Mary Gordon and their children. They came to America onboard the S.S. Lucania and left Queenstown on 11 November 1906 and arrived in Ellis Island, New York on 17 Nov 1906.
We having living relatives still in Ireland and I dream of one day visiting them myself and walking in my ancestors' footsteps.
Here's a brief family tree of our Irish Roots;
Thomas Patrick Gordon (b 1862) + Mary Caughley = Mary Ann Gordon Bridget Gordon James Gordon *Patrick Aloysious Gordon (b1895) Sara Gordon Mary Kate Gordon Thomas Gordon Frances Gordon Daniel Gordon John Gordon Anthony Gordon Honoria Gordon Helen Gordon
*Patrick Aloysious Gordon + Sarah Bernadette Maughan (b1895)= Jack Gordon *Mary Gordon (b1922-d2001) Anna Gordon Rose Gordon Kathleen Gordon
Mary Gordon + Jack Kiefaber = Jane Kiefaber(1) Susan Kiefaber
-->ITALIAN ROOTS (Paternal): I'm also researching my family from Accetura, Italy in the Basilicata Region. Both my paternal grandparents were from there and didn't meet until later in New York City.
My Grandfather was Vincenzo Cavalcante and my grandmother is Angelina Maria Scavetta. Her mother was Rosa Cerabone and was married to Michael Scavetta who served in the Italian army during World War I. He died in 1920 of pneumomnia he contracted while in the Army and shortly after that, my Great grandmother Rosa Cerabona/Scavetta decided to bring her family to America for a new beginning. They left Napoli, Italy on the S.S. Regina D' Italia on 20 Dec 1920 and arrived at Ellis Island in January 1921. They settled in New Jersey.
Michael Scavetta's father's name is unknown, but his mother (the first wife of his father's two marriages) was named Marie. From that first marriage, he had 3 brothers, Salvatore, Giuseppe and another unknown brother. His mother died while he was young (cause currently unknown) and his father married a very young girl in her twenties, Filomena, who was the same age as his oldest son. Together they had two daughters, Mary and one unknown, and two sons - Anthony (born and died in Italy) and a son who was born in Camden, New Jersey.
I believe we still have family in Accetura of both the Scavetta and Cerabona lines. My Grandfather Vincent Cavalcante was a 10 month old infant when his mother and siblings emmigrated to America in 1901 and they lived in Philadelphia for some time. At age 16, he lied about his age and place of birth so he could join the U.S. Navy and fight in World War I.
Here's a brief family tree to our roots in Italy:
Giuseppe Cerabona + ??? = Angelina Cerabona Maria Cerabona Margaret Cerabona Rosa Cerabona(b 17Apr1888) + Michael Scavetta(b1885-d1920)= Beatrice Scavetta Philomena Scavetta *Angelina Scavetta(b 4Jan1910)
Andrew Cavalcante + Carmella ??? = Minerva Cavalcante Dora Cavalcante Patricia Cavalcante Henry Cavalcante Giuseppe Cavalcante *Vincenzo Cavalcante(b 15Nov1899) *Vincenzo Cavalcante + *Angelina Scavetta = James Cavalcante Robert Cavalcante Sr. + Jane Kiefaber(1) = Robert Cavalcante Jr. (Me)
I'm researching a possible link to Cavalcante de Cavalcan
