The Champaigne Family (also Champagne)

Updated November 24, 2007

My grandfather, Frederick Earl Champaigne, was city electrical inspector in South Bend, Indiana. He installed electric lights in the dome at Notre Dame University. Sisters at Saint Mary's indicated that our family name goes back to the plains of Champagne in France. I seem to find more history of Champagne, without the "i". I'm not sure where the spelling variant came from.
