Ulysses (he was called "Ulous") was a baker. he owned a bakery and store in French Lick and wrote poetry which was published in papers in Indiana. In his obituary, "he was a prominent businessman and 2nd term town trustee". he was sick 2 years from complications of the kidney, liver and heart. He was a member of the I.O.O. F. & K of P

Uylsses had two thumbs on his one hand - possibly where the "Salyers finger" came from?

In the early 1900's he was a cook at the famous hotel in French Lick, Indiana (see photo of the family)
