About Our Family Research

This is a family that does not have reunions(though I wish they did). Josiah is an elusive character because I can't pinpoint his parents or siblings. He is however listed in genealogy reports for various nationalities (irish, english, etc). He was born in giles co, tn on 6/21/1817. he came by boat to texas during the civil war to help fight santa anna. the boat encountered bad weather along the way & by the time it arrived in galveston, the battle was over.He also fought in the Indian wars in Tx, & helped to build the first state capitol of Tx. Sam Houston awarded him with a set of dueling pistols. He was a farmer as most people were in those days, but he owned a tannery
as well. In his tannery, he made saddles, belts, & boots.
He married Emily B Polk (niece of the president) they established their home along Ayish Bayou in Tx.
