Rachel was born November 24, 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the eleventh of twelve children born to Carl A. and Rose J. Badger. She was raised in Salt Lake City. The family home was located at 995 Lincoln St., Salt Lake City, Utah.
Rachel attended Thomas D. Dee Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Ogden, Utah, graduating in 1941. After graduation, she served in the U. S. Army in Leopoldville, Africa for 2 years. While in Africa, Rachel received training to become qualified as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Prior to her discharge, Rachel received Post-Graduate training at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland in Pediatric Nursing. She was Honorably Discharged as a 1st Lieutenant.
Rachel then moved to Seattle, Washington where she was employed by Children's Orthopedic Hospital. While there, she was recruited by Dr. Manley J. Wham to be Director of Nursing at Lake Chelan Community Hospital. In 1949 she married Kenneth Christopher of Chelan, Washington. She had two children, Carl Joseph and Kathe Rae.
Rachel's career then diversified, including 6 years as Director of Nursing at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco, and 14 years in Geriatric Nursing in Seattle, Washington prior to her retirement in 1987.
Rachel passed away in Bellevue, Washington on December 6, 1999 and is interred in Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.
