I am told by older family members that I am a direct descendant of Johnathan Edwards, who was a minister, a Puritan, and a founder of one of the "ivy league" universities in the New England area. The story is that he was awarded a land grant by the King of England for land in the area of New York City. He later separated himself from the Church of England.

Some of the other names that may appear in the lineage are Wade and Nelson.

I am attempting to begin a search of my family lineage to see if there is any truth to this story.

I am a novice with genealogy, so any information will be helpful.
