My husband and I bought a somewhat tired looking Queen Anne Victorian in Holyoke, Massachusetts about 2 years ago. Upon doing a little research, I discovered that our home was built by Frank A. Whiting, son of William Whiting, one of the most important men in Holyoke.
William Whiting (1841-1911) was a Republican member of the Massachusetts state senate, 1873; mayor of Holyoke, Mass., 1878; U.S. Representative from Massachusetts 11th District, 1883-89.
Frank's brother was William F. Whiting was a delegate to the Republican National Convention from Massachusetts, 1924, 1928; U.S. Secretary of Commerce, 1928-29. Congregationalist.
Anyway, back to Frank. Frank ran his father's coal business in downtown Holyoke. He married Fannie Sherive and had our house built in 1892. Fannie died shortly after the birth of their daughter and the census records show Frank living here with his sister, daughter, and two servants until 1919.
I have many unanswered questions:
Where is his daughter? How did his wife die? Are there any pictures of the house or Frank?
