I am looking for any information for my great grandfather,Marcus Lafayette Averill. He was born in Hinesburg, Vt. abt 1835. In Nov. 1860 he had a son in St. Alban's, Vermont, with Mary Jane Smith who was born in Massachusetts abt 1842. They married later that year and sometime later came to Michigan. He enlisted in the army and they got a divorce. After the war he was discharged in Jeffersonville, Indiana. I don't know where he went from there. The child, my grandfather,Marcus Lafayette Averill,Jr was given to another family with the last name of "Baker" and Mary Jane married James McClay.
