The Ciolli Family of America and Italy

Updated June 16, 2001

About Our Family Research

We are planning a trip back to Italy next year to try to locate members of our family. We are searching for relatives, so if this family history sounds familiar, drop me a note.

CARLO CIOLLI, b 20/10/1899 in Fagnano Alto, L'Aquila Province, Italy. His parents were Nicola Ciolli and Marie Angela Fattore. She died when he was young, either 3 yrs old or 13 yrs old - uncertain. Carlo served in the Italian Army in Ethiopia in WWI, immigrated to USA in 1920 with his cousin, first to Pittsburgh, where he had a female relative, Fattore, then to Florida with a road construction crew, then to Washington State. He married Josephine Yorio in June 1926. They had four children.

JOSEPHINE YORIO CIOLLI b.11/17/05 in Morrone Del Sannio, Campobasso province, Italy. Her father was Domenico Yorio (his parents were Michele Yoria and Maria Giuseppa), her mother Angelina Mastrogiacomo (her parents were Modesto and Gracia). She immigrated with her family to the Seattle, Washington area in 1910 with one older sister (Maria) and one younger sister (Carmela). Her father worked in the US for several years making occasional trips back to Italy to see (and increase!) his family. They lived in Seattle and Adna, Washington.

That's all I know. Anyone have anything to add? Any suggestions about where to start looking for relatives? Fagnano Alto has a current population of 499, and Morrone Del Sannio has 917, very small villages.
