Jean Baptiste was a slave in St. James Parish. After the Civil War he was freed and became a land owner along with nine other men in a section of St. James Parish that bordered the Mississippi River. He was born about 1841-1845 in St. James Parish and died in New Orleans,LA at the age of 90. He married and had a number of children, including Madeline, Manette,
