This site is a result from years of research in trying to find information on my grandfather Tom/Thomas Sanders. The first indication of him on record is in the 1910 Arkansas Census, where he (Thomas) was listed with his wife, Marandia/Maranda, his step children, Manning/Manny Bell,(Uncle Son) who was 16 at the time, Aunt Bertha, who was 14 and Aunt Kate (Katie) who was 13 at the time. Also listed were his natural children, Aunt Tinnie/Lutinia (listed as /Lutilda), age 9, Aunt Leola, age 7, my dad (John L) who was listed as Butch/Bush, age 6 and my Aunt Effie (Toots) who was a baby, age 2. They were living in a place called Homan Township, which, according to records no longer exists. I soon starting running into dead ends so I began to look on my mother's side and I discovered her great grandfather Sanon/Lanon Denwoodie who in 1860 (before the slaves were freed) was listed in Missouri as a "Free Man". I also found the 1870 records of the Shanklins in the Bell county Texas Census (my mother's other grandparents).
A few years later, after I got up enough nerve to start researching Tom again, with the help of Clare, I found my father's mother's parents (Simon and Ellen Higgs) and all her siblings. They were in the 1870 and 1880 Arkansas Census. There are over 1400 people connected to us in some form or fashion so far and I am still searching. Thank you and I hope you can get some useful information from what you find.
Happy Hunting, Louise
