I have been reseaching my husband's family. Thanks to many family links the Cleary side of the family is fairly well known. He is a descendant of Patrick and Sarah Cleary who immigrated to Escanaba, Michigan from Londonderry, Ireland (via Glasgow) about 1875. They moved to Butte, Montana around the turn of the century where Patrick worked as a foreman in the cabinet shop of the Anna Conda copper mine. Following his death in 1925, the family moved to the West Coast and settled in Long Beach, Washington and Seattle. My husband's parents, Joseph Sarsfield Cleary and Wilhelmina Cleary (AKA "Juanita") lived in Oakland until they passed away in 1972 and 1974. Their descendants all live in the Bay Area. His mother's side of the family is a little more sketchy. Her mother, Anna Swas (AKA Bridget) was born in Oakland in 1876. She married William White probably around 1900 and they had two daughters, Wilhelmina born November 3, 1901 and Margaret Mary born June 28 1909. We have not been able to find much information on the White family. We have been told they were quite prominent in Oakland and lived in a house overlooking Lake Merritt. The family owned the local jute mill. Following the 1906 earthquake William White helped with the rescue efforts in San Francisco. Sometime later - probably around 1912 - 1915 he became ill and died leaving his widow to raise their two daughters.
I also need to do some research on my ancestors although I do have quite a bit of information on the Hosking/Shobrook/Dash families from Devon and Cornwall, England. I was a WWII British War Bride.
If you can fill in any of our blanks, it would be much appreciated.
