I am researching the Clifford Family from the village of Little Somerford, Wiltshire, England.My G.Grandparents William and Elizabeth had quite a large Family, starting in 1863 with a daughter Catherine b.Aug 1863.Then came my own Grandfather Joseph
b.April 1865. He had at least three brothers to my knowledge who
at various times Emigrated to the U.S.A They were first George
Clifford, his name appears in the 1920 census for the City of New
York, working as a Butler to a Mr Gerald Hoyt. George was born in
the above named village in March 1868, went to the States in 1895,and became a naturalized U.S Citizen by 1920.
Next to follow in Georges footsteps was his young brother Walter Allen,b.March 1883 in the above Village. Walter was about 17 years old when he went to the States, he settled down in Aikin, South Carolina.He Married Nettie Munson, and they had five children, four boys and a girl. the childrens name are Hatton,Connie,Walter Allen Jr,Dickson, and Florence Ruth. The next brother to leave the village was Herbert andrew, b.12 April 1885. He must have eventualy settled in New York City, according to the Social Security Death index details, he died in the Long Island District of N.Y in Jan 1969.
His Nephew, my Fathers brother Frank Clifford went to the States in May 1930, the only details of him that I have are that again
in the S.S Death index. He died in the Richmond district of Staten Island N.Y he was born on 28th Sept 1898 in Fulham, London,England. and died on 20th Oct 1973.
