Updated November 27, 2009

About Our Family Research

My current research is concentrated on determining the parents and siblings of my 2nd Great-Grandfathers, William Henry COBB (1833-1901) and Caleb COCHRAN (1819-1903). I feel that they were both only one of several children, and I wish to determine the names of their siblings. William Henry COBB's death certificate indicates that his father was William COBB, born abt. 1796 in Pennsylvania. His wife's name was Elizabeth, born about 1803.

William Henry COBB, b. August 1833, in Roane County, Virginia; d. March 23, 1901, at Charleston(Kanawha County), West Virginia. He apparently lived, and farmed, most of his life in Roane County, (formerly a part of Kanawha County) in the state of Virginia, which became the State of West Virginia in 1863. He married Barbara Ellen STARCHER (1837-1911), on August 17, 1852, in Glenville (Gilmer County), Virginia. Their off-spring are included in the Descendants of William Henry COBB report at the bottom of this page. He joined the Union Army in the War Between the States and served with Company A, 13th Regiment of the West Virginia Volunteer Infantry. He participated in the Lynchburg (VA) raid, and was disabled during that military engagement. William Henry Cobb and Barbara Ellen STARCHER had children. One of them was:

My Great-Grandfather, Daniel M. COBB b. June 15, 1858 in Roane County, Virginia. His date and place of death are unknown by me, at present. He married Prissilla BISHOP (1866-1956), daughter of A. BISHOP, b. 1823 in Kentucky, and Louisa KING, b. 1826 in Kentucky. Daniel and Prissilla had children. One of them was:

My Grandfather, Okey Warren COBB b. April 4, 1888, at Ward (Kanawha County), West Virginia. He died December 23, 1918, in a coal mining accident, at Ward. He married Agnes M. TUCKER (1890-1948), daughter of Herod TUCKER and Victoria SELBY. They had children, one of whom was:

My father, Charles William COBB, b. February 16, 1916, at Ward (Kanawha County), West Virginia d. December 12, 1976, at South Charleston (Kanawha County), West Viginia. m. Lucy Maxine COCHRAN on March 10, 1939, at Hugheston (Kanawha County), West Virginia. She was the daughter of William COCHRAN and Myrtle SNODGRASS. Charles William COBB and Lucy Maxine COCHRAN had five (5) children, one of whom was yours truly: Charles Richard COBB b. March 23, 1942, at Ward, West Virginia.
m. Carol Kay DIVELY at Crafton, Pennsylvania, on January 4, 1964.
They had one child:

My son, Charles Richard COBB, II b. June 1, 1966 m. Demetra Jean EVANS b. December 28, 1968, at Rome (Floyd County), Georgia. m. October 8, 1994, at Cartersville (Bartow County), Georgia. Their son: Collin Evans COBB b. January 22, 1998, at Marietta (Cobb County), Georgia.

So, there. You now know what I know (additional information and documentation are included in the attached reports at the bottom of this page).

My current research goals are: (1) to connect all of the COBB-lines related to this William H. COBB and this Caleb COCHRAN, in order to locate all of my unknown relatives. Could my William H. COBB be related to Dr. William COBB of Clendenin, WV, or to Fleming COBB, indian fighter, both of whom were early settlers in the Kanawha River and Elk River valleys of western Virginia? (2) to determine the parents of this William H. COBB and the names of his other brothers and sisters. (3) to determine the port-of-entry to the United States and the country of origin for these COBB and COCHRAN lines, and (4) to expand my knowledge of my mother's family - the COCHRAN-line.

I offer these data with the hope that future generations of these COBB and COCHRAN lines will appreciate my effort, while enjoying a look back at their ancestors.

I wish God's love and care on each member of these COBB and COCHRAN lines who may visit here. All other visitors are warmly welcomed.
