| Updated info posted October 31, 2006. Bob I continue to research my family's path through history. I have confirmed that I am a descendant of Gibson Collins (ca 1792). Records are current as of the date shown with this web page. Thanks for all the contacts over the past year. We thought that a Moses Collins (there are several), might be Gibson's father. However, DNA testing shows that Moses Collins is NOT my gggg-grandfather. It points more toward Corwin Collins from Alabama. This may be possible since folks moved around a lot more during the late 1700s and 1800s than we realize. I am a South Carolina native and am searching for the following surnames (primary) for me: Collins (mine), Padgett (my mother). These two lead to Collins/Goff and Padgett/Berry. Thus far, I have been reasonably successful, finding information back to the late 1700's on the Collinses; The Goffs have been traced back to Germany; The Berrys have been a bit more elusive; The Padgetts have been heavily researched by cousins and they have done an admireable job, with data dating to the 1500's in England and other areas of Europe. My wife's family, the Deases, is a real challenge, not for the lack of information (thus far), but for the fact the Dease name is spelled differently, almost everytime you see it - Dease, Deas, Deese, ... To make this more interesting, the name was even spelled differently between brothers - Dease & Deese. The names I am interested in are Dease/Estridge (father) and on her mother's side, the Raleys. I have accumulated quite a bit of information on the Collinses and Goffs and a respectable amount on the Deases. Information on any of these would be appreciated. We have strong ties to South Carolina, but I know there will be ties to other states and locales. Always willing to share info with those who will do the same.
