About Our Family Research

Hello,I am Lorna J Hutchison Conley. My Hutchison name, is my fathers name and, he was born in Wayne Co, W.Va,in a place called Whites Creek. His mother was, the late Jessie Alice Adams Hutchison of Huntington, W.Va Who was the daughter of Billy Adams and Evelyn Smith (Shannon)of Wayne Co. W VA. and father, the late Cecil Hutchison Of Huntington, W.VA.whom was the son of Abraham Hutchison, and mother was Mary Staley of Wayne Co. The Hutchison spelling was and is spelled in many ways. However, I am finding through my research that,it was the way people spelled it or, spell it.
My mothers side, consists of a large family of Turners from, the Scioto River Valley in Ohio. The Turners are of course large and abroad. The side I am from is the William Turner ,by birth Godwin, bloodline. He was born in Darbyshire or Darby county England,May 15,1789.When he was 14 he was drafted into the army to fight in the war between France and England. Which began in 1793 When Napoleon Bonaparte of france hoped to conquer Brittain and become the master of Europe of which later caused the War of 1812 in America. The French was pushing the english back at this time and this young boy (William Godwin) and 2 others about his age fell in to a trench and laid there pretending they were dead until the french calvary had passed over them. The fighting took place near a port in the a Irish Sea and the 3 made their way to the seaport and became stow-aways on a trading ship bound to America.
When he landed in America, in order not to be traced and returned to England and the Army,he changed his name to Turner and all 10 of his children by his wife,Elizabeth Fleming of Kentucky, born July 27,1796,were born under this name. They lived in the Lick Run and Dogwood Ridge community of Ohio in their early married life and then moved to a farm in Slocum Station in 1831 when their son Joseph was 7 years of age. This farm included several acres and a Porter Church was erected on part of it.They first lived at Slocum on what was known as the Gumm place and later moved to a farm one-half mile above Slocum. The Turner Cemetary is located on a hill on part of this farm. Which is called Route 1 in Wheelersburgh Ohio. Both William and his wife is buried in this cemetary. William who died February 25,1856 and his wife who died November 8,1870.There is also many of their descendants buried in this cemetary as well.
Now out of the children of William and Elizabeth, my bloodline comes from their son Levi Turner. Levi Turner married Josephine Slocum on September 1,1857,They had 7 children. They are, Nora Turner who married Horatio S baker,Arceilia Malissa Turner married to John Wesley Jenkins,Warren Turner married Mary Alice Shoemaker,John Godwin Turner married Lyda Sylvia Corriel,George Turner,Joseph Rufus Turner married Mary Etta Piquet,Laura Elizabeth Turner of whom died at the age of 26 years of possibly pnemonia or influenza.
My blood line from there, branches from John Godwin Turner.John married Lyda Slyvia Corriel from Byers Ohio or Jackson Ohio Area. They later divorced around 1894 or 1895. They had one child of whom is/was my grandfather Loren Orville Turner Born May 29,1895 and died January 27,1979.Loren married Mable Marie Ray in 1920 in Jackson Ohio. She was the daughter of Clinton Ray of Hinton County, Byers Ohio. Her mother was Elizabeth Jane Slack from Ironton (Hanging Rock)Ohio. Clinton was Elizabeth's second marriage.Befor, marring Clinton Ray she was married to George Colley of whom, was killed in an accident on the B&O Railroad.Loren and mable had 8 children:Clerance Godwin (died at birth),Genevive Lyda,Agnes Luealla,Ray Orville,Kenneth Russel,Vera Elizabeth Turner Hutchison (my mother),Ardeana Mable,Carl Warren.
