This Cook Family History
from Fred Cook writing/by Jim Wilson Cook (gr grandson)

Our family history on Hotel Patten, Chattanooga, Tenn. stationary written by my Great Grandfather Fredrick Wm Cook on 11-10-1952 states as he herd it from his uncle Collin C. Cook and wrote it down exactly as stated (I have the original letter in the safe): According to family tradition given me mostly by an uncle C.C. Cook, our Asaph Cook, or (e), family came to this country in 1620, in the Mayflower and then in 1682, or 7, on a grant from King James established a community in Eastern Connecticut on the border of Rhode Island, but the project was soon abandoned.
During the Revolutionary War the Cook head of the house, served as a Captain and when (away) in the army the house and barns were burned needed cattle confiscated by the British. The Family moved into western N.Y. state at or near Bratavia where Great Grandfather Cook ran a livery stable and (?) general store.
When in early 1800 the state of Conn. indemnified the loses made on our country by the British raids by grants of land in Northern Ohio, the family moved to take up their allotment, near what is now Kwavas North Monroeville, and at that time it was called "Cooks Corners."
