He married Marjorie Thirkell on 01 1935 in Kingston-upon-Hull, Yorkshire, England7, daughter of Samuel Thirkell and Ada-Mary Sutcliffe.

Thomas Andrew Cook was educated at the Trinity House School.

At the time of his marriage, Thomas was a fisherman and lived at 40 Beecroft Street, Hull.

Skipper Thomas Andrew Cook R.N.R. (T.S.905 R.N.R.) was awarded the D.S.C. for devotion to duty in the Dieppe raid, he was 32 years old. The investiture took place at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday 27th October 1942, in the presence of King George VI.

On the 1st November 1955, the Grimsby trawler Barry Castle sank off the north-west coast of Iceland with the loss of four lives. In recognition of his part in the rescue of survivors, Skipper Cook was presented with a pair of binoculars. The citation was read by Mr. W.A. Whytock, HM District Inspector of Fisheries. The presentation was made on behalf of the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, by Mr. R.P. Ross, president of Hull Fishing Vessel Owners' Association.
