Alma Julia Hanna (daughter of William Silas Hanna and Olina Anna Ottum) was born 10 Aug 1918 in Biggar Saskatchewan, and died 25 Sep 1999 in Chilliwack British Columbia. She married Donald Gleig on 20 Sep 1939 in Chilliwack British Columbia.

Alma's mother died when she was very young. Her father married a second time and Lydia is the only mother that Alma could remember.

The bulk of Alma's schooling was completed in Biggar. Alma moved to Chilliwack British Columbia with her family in 1934.

While Don was overseas with the military Alma lived with her son Donald. She returned to Chilliwack and the family business at the end of the war.

Alma was very active in the community and was a driving force in getting an artificial ice rink for the community in 1958. She participated in volunteer fund raising and along with her husband Don was a member of the initial group that created the Chilliwack Golf & Country Club when it was determined the community needed and 18 hold golf course.

In 1987 she was presented with the Lady of the Year Award for the District of Chilliwack in recognition of her long time contributions to the community which included: Spearheading the initial ice rink construction. She was a long time participate on the Chilliwack Hospital Auxiliary and 2 terms on the hospital board.

She worked with her husband Don and his brother Bruce in the family sporting goods store until it was sold in the mid 1970's. She and Don had a rich social life with close friends and loved to dance to big band music. She loved the outdoors and spent every summer at Cultus Lake with her sons. After retirement Don and she travelled often to the USA in search of the sun and good golfing. She was a loving and doting mother and an excellent hostess, everybody was always welcome and never left without eating.
