John Copeland always claimed Loudoun county, VA as his birthplace but to date I haven't found any proof of this. If actually true, I believe his parents were not permanent residents and may have been visiting when the birth occured. Sometime before 1844 John had relocated to Ohio and married Emaline Wise, possibly in Stark or Knox counties. This seems logical since their first child, Mary Emaline, was born in Ohio 22 OCT 1845. Their second child, Charles Emmit was born 10 JAN 1847 in Iowa. Emaline's family had tie to both of the named counties. John's residence in Ohio not known but he most likely made the trip to Iowa with his new in-laws. The first paper trail for John's family is the 1850 Johnson county, Iowa Census where he recorded as living next to his in-laws. By 1854 the family had relocated to Fremont county, IA where he lived out his days. His family remained and are buried in Fremont county but his wife is buried with her mother in Keokuk county, IA.
