My grandmother's father was Hugh Miller Reed b. 7/12/1870 Mt. Gambier, South Australia. d. 1962 Nhill, Victoria.
His parents were William Reed and Agnes White Millar. William was born c.1845-1850 in Leverington, Cambridgeshire, England. He and Agnes married 12/10/1867 Portland, Victoria. I have not found their deaths.
William's parents are a bit of a mystery. I am about to, again, try and find his birth which may help. Officially, his parents are Cornelius Cooke Reed and Ann Scrimshaw, however, it may be that he is an illitimate son of Ann's.
Cornelius was born around 1800 in Upwell, Norfolk and died 23/6/1876 and married a Hannah in 1820. They had 5 girls:
Eliza b. 1821, Gorefield, Leverington, CAM, England
Jane b. 1823, Gorefield, Leverington, CAM, England
Sarah b. 1825, Gorefield, Leverington, CAM, England
Harriet b. 1826, Gorefield, Leverington, CAM, England
Susannah b. 1833, Gorefield, Leverington, CAM, England
Hannah died in 1843 and Cornelius married Ann Scrimshaw in 1850. However, William's marriage certificate says his age was 20, making him born c.1847 which is why I think he may have been only Ann's song. When they immigrated to Australia in 1852, William is listed as being 5 on the ship. Also, his sister's birth certificate states that Cornelius and Ann were married in 1846. However, St Cath's house says 1850. Perhaps a cover up for William's birth?
Cornelius and Ann had another child, Fanny who was an infant when they immigrated in 1852 but she died at sea. When they arrived in Australia they had two more children:
Fanny Elizabeth b. 20/7/1854, Portland, Victoria
d. 1913, Portland, Victoria
(She had two illigitimate children, Leonard William Reed b. 1877 & Harrold Lorraine b. 1883)
Cornelius Cook Reed b. 15/5/1857, Portland, Victoria
d. 1921, Ballarat, Victoria
Cornelius's parents were Stephen Reed and Hannah Cooke and other children I've found are:
Hannah Reed b. 1802, Upwell, CAM, England
William Reed b. 1804, Upwell, CAM, England
Sarah Reed b. 1807, Upwell, CAM, England
Richard Reed b. 1808, Upwell, CAM, England
Ann SCRIMSHAW was born in 1816, Leverington, CAM, England and died 23/7/1884 in Herd St, Portland, Victoria. Her parents were William SCRIMSHAW and her mother was either a Mary or a Sarah. Ann's siblings that I've found are:
Robert b. 1815, Leverington, CAM, England
George b. 1817, Leverington, CAM, Enlgand
Martha b. 1818, Fetton End, Leverington, CAM, England
Harriet b. 1820, Gorefield, Leverington, CAM, England
Frances b. 1822, Gorefield, Leverington, CAM, England
Susanna b. 1826, Gorefield, Leverington, CAM, England
Sarah J. b. 1828, Gorefield, Leverington, CAM, England
Rebecca b. 1830, Gorefield, Leverington, CAM, England
Mary M. b. 1831, Gorefield, Leverington, CAM, England
William SCRIMSHAW was born 1775 in Leverington and his parents were John SCRIMSHAW and Ann SMITH who were married 18/11/1772.
