About Our Family Research
Elias, accompanied by his brother Andrew Myers, crossed the plains with his wife and four children. They traveled using ox-teams and wagons, and came to California in 1860, locating in Trinity County. In 1867, they came to Rohnerville, where they stayed for their first winter in Humboldt County. During the following spring (May 15, 1868), Elias hired a 22-mule pack train to move the family to what is now known as Myers Flatt. Elias had purchased the squatter rights to the 160 acres of what is now known as Myers Flat from two men known as Ferris and Brock for $1,000 and then claimed all the land lying three miles to the east bank of the Eel River which was where the Crothers Property began. The Crothers settled what is now known as Weott.
