The Elmer & Helen Mae Coyer Family Updated August 16, 2007
About Our Family Research
Thirty years ago Elmer and Helen Mae Coyer began researching their family roots. They were curious about their grandparents ancestors. As early Colorado and Oklahoma pioneers, their families had a rich history of European immigration, New World opportunity, and the adventure so typical of the early families of these United States. Elmer would go to the library in Denver during his lunch hour and bring new found information home with him. In the evenings he and Helen Mae would study the day’s information and plan their search for the next piece of the puzzle. Their enthusiasm grew as their curiosity lead them to ever expanding horizons. Soon they were traveling to Salt Lake City and making contacts with family members for more information. As the path lead to Europe and the family immigration history, curiosity captured their imagination. Soon they were planning trips to England, Germany, France where they hoped to find new details. They tell wonderful stories that capture the excitement of newfound information such as the night in Germany when Helen Mae first viewed the original parish records of a loved ancestor who opened the door to the next levels of her family tree. The journeys continued for them into Canada and throughout the United States as they gathered more and more information. They became local historians, wrote articles and shared their family tree information with others. They met others who were interested and made many new friends. Today, some thirty plus years after they first studied those bits of newfound information at the kitchen table; they have many stories which capture the wonder of their adventures and endless fond memories of researching the Coyer Family. This information is the product of their passion and it is presented here as a tribute to their curiosity and pride in their ancestors, many now dead, who live in the hearts and history of each of their descendants.
