* The Dan L. Craycraft Homepage*

Updated September 2, 2012

I am a member of a large Internet group researching all spellings of the surname Cra(y)cr(a)oft. Please be sure to visit our Craycraft Homepage (see link below) where we have posted hundreds of documents, photos and messages. Please email me with any and all questions on this family. Major surnames married into our line include: Bowell,Atkinson,Hunt,Warnock,Greenslate.
My maternal line includes Long, Lucas, and Taylor. My paternal side includes Jones.

The Craycraft line descends from England with the spelling as Cracroft. They can trace their ancestry back to 1050! The Cracrofts first appear in Hogsthorpe and later in Hackthorn where the Cracrofts still reside in Hackthorn Hall. John Cracroft and his wife Ann immigrated from Lincolnshire, England to the Americas ca 1665. My line descends from one Joseph Cracraft and his wife Ann who reportedly also came from Lincolnshire, England. We have been unable to determine where Joseph connects to the English Cracrofts.

Based upon DNA testing, of which I have been the coordinator, the results have proven that the following Cracraft, Craycraft, Cracroft and Craycroft lines share a common ancestor. Those lines include: Joseph2 (md. Margaret Bowel and Eunice Dawson); William (md. Sarah Bowel); Samuel (md. Elizabeth Unknown); John (Cracroft) Creacroft (md. Ann). John and Ann arrived here in 1665 from Lincolnshire, England and settled in MD. We have also proven, through DNA testing, that our DNA matches that of the English Cracrofts from which we all descend.

Peter Kenneth Cracroft, of England, kindly submitted his DNA. He can trace his genealogy back to the 1200's and earlier. This is documented in Burke's Landed Gentry.

See the "Related Files" section of this page for a complete report on our DNA results. It is entitled: "Our Ancestry Through DNA Analysis".
